Our Work
The Water Management and Planning Program, adhering to technical requirements in the Water Compact, conducts water supply planning, water conservation strategies, irrigation water management and instream flow management. Goals include improving irrigation water efficiency, aquatic habitat improvement and perpetuation of cultural values.
The Water Monitoring and Measurement Program measures canal flow, stream flow, and irrigation reservoir levels more than 90 locations to provide data critical for irrigation water management and the protection of Tribal water resources.
The Restoration Program focuses on projects to restore the streams and waterways of the Reservation.
The Irrigation Infrastructure Program works to rehabilitate and modernize irrigation facilities on the Flathead Reservation.
The Safety of Dams Program works to reduce the potential loss of human life and property damage caused by dam failure by making dams under the administration of the program as safe as practically possible. The Program endeavors to ensure that all dams on the Flathead Reservation are maintained in satisfactory condition on a long-term basis.
The BIA National Monitoring Center provides real-time monitoring of 141 dams on 40 Indian Reservations and afterhours emergency dispatch for MVP.
The NRD Water Rights Program provides water rights assistance to Tribal departments, the general public, and external partners. The Program also registers Tribal uses of water under the Unitary Administrative Management Ordinance.
The Roads Program performs routine maintenance of roads, bridges, culverts, signs, ditches, on all Tribal roads. The Roads Program also performs sweeping and mowing of Tribal homesite roads through an agreement with Salish Kootenai Housing Authority.
The Information and Education Program helps to deliver on the Tribes’ mission through education and outreach.
The Administrative Team plays a crucial role in the efficient functioning of the division, managing all administrative-related duties for the team.
